Constraining Cosmological Parameters with Cmb Measurements

چکیده
The current enthusiam to measure fluctuations in the CMB power spectrum at angular scales between 0.1 and 1 is largely motivated by the expectation that CMB determinations of cosmological parameters will be of unprecedented precision. In such circumstances it is important to estimate what we can already say about the cosmological parameters. In two recent papers (Lineweaver et al. 1997a & 1997b) we have compiled the most recent CMB measurements, used a fast Boltzmann code to calculate model power spectra (Seljak & Zaldarriaga 1996) and, with a χ analysis, we have compared the data to the power spectra from several large regions of parameter space. In the context of the flat models tested we obtain the following constraints on cosmological parameters: Ho = 30 +13 −9 , n = 0.93 −0.16 and Q = 17.5 −2.5 μK. The n and Q values are consistent with previous estimates while the Ho result is surprisingly low.

Characterising the Primordial Cosmic Perturbations Using MAP and PLANCK
The most general homogeneous and isotropic statistical ensemble of linear scalar perturbations which are regular at early times, in a universe with only photons, baryons, neutrinos, and a cold dark matter (CDM) component, is described by a 5x5 symmetric matrix-valued generalization of the power spectrum. This description is complete if the perturbations are Gaussian, and even in the non-Gaussia...

The presence of dark energy in the Universe is inferred directly from the accelerated expansion of the Universe, and indirectly, from measurements of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy. Dark energy contributes about 2/3 of the critical density, is very smoothly distributed, and has large negative pressure. Its nature is very much unknown. Most of its discernible consequences follow fr...

The CMB is already one of the pillars of the Big Bang model. However it may also become our most powerful tool to distinguish contending models and to determine their cosmological parameters. To realize this goal, more than 20 observational groups and two new satellites are gearing up to make precise measurements of the CMB at small angular scales. In such a situation it is important to keep tr...
متن کاملCosmic Confusion: Degeneracies among Cosmological Parameters Derived from Measurements of Microwave Background Anisotropies
In the near future, observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies will provide accurate determinations of many fundamental cosmological parameters. In this paper, we analyse degeneracies among cosmological parameters to illustrate some of the limitations inherent in CMB parameter estimation. For simplicity, throughout our analysis we assume a cold dark matter universe with ...
متن کاملCosmic Chronometers: Constraining the Equation of State of Dark Energy. I: H(z) Measurements
We present new determinations of the cosmic expansion history from red-envelope galaxies. We have obtained for this purpose high-quality spectra with the Keck-LRIS spectrograph of red-envelope galaxies in 24 galaxy clusters in the redshift range 0.2 < z < 1.0. We complement these Keck spectra with high-quality, publicly available archival spectra from the SPICES and VVDS surveys. We improve ove...
